In this two-hour workshop with knitwear designer Beth of things.beth.makes, we will break down how cables move, how to read charts and written instructions, and how to fix mistakes without unraveling your work. By the end of the session you’ll have a completed cable swatch and the confidence to pick up any cable pattern. What You’ll Cover How cable crossings work and why they look the way they do Reading cable charts and translating written cable instructions Cabling with and without a cable needle Fixing cable mistakes without unraveling your work What’s Included Common cable abbreviations reference sheet Cable chart symbol guide A cable swatch pattern to complete in class Links to supporting video tutorials and blog posts Pre-requisites Students signing up for this class should have basic pattern reading skills and possess the ability to both knit and purl stitches, to switch comfortably between knit and purl stitches, and be able to “read” your knitting to differentiate between knit and purl stitches. Pre-class work: Cast on 34 stitches and knit 6 rows of garter stitch. Materials to Bring Worsted or DK weight yarn in a light, solid color (easier to see your stitches) Needles appropriate for your yarn weight Cable needle (optional — we’ll cover cabling without one too) Stitch markers
