Limited Edition Peridot Owl Ring in Sterling Silver Barn owl ring with two natural peridot stones set as eyes. Minimalist, geometric and unisex, hand-carved in wax and cast in sterling silver at our studio. Only 45 of these rings will ever be made. Once the last one leaves the bench, this edition is closed for good. Peridot is the birthstone of August, but the Egyptians got there first and called it the gem of the sun. They mined it on an island in the Red Sea, and the old story goes that they worked after dark, when the stones were easiest to find. It is also the one green gem that holds its color by lamplight, which is why the old jewelers called it the evening emerald. Peridot does not form in the earth's crust the way most stones do either: it comes up from far below on volcanoes, and has even been found inside meteorites. Set into the quiet face of the barn owl, it becomes my favorite kind of contradiction: a piece of daylight, in the eyes of a bird that only wakes after dark.
