Wood Fired Jianshui Tea Cup - Grade 1 - 120ml
It is really amazing to see all the wood fired teaware coming out of Jianshui. These cups were wood fired in a small kiln for 7 days at high heat. Each cup is unique. We bought all the cups that came from this kiln. We got a good deal on these cups and want to pass those savings on to you. These cups were made by hand on a pottery wheel. There was no glaze added to these cups. All the colors and texture you see come from the pine wood pitch ash glaze created by the fire, heat, and smoke during the long firing. We organized all the cups into 3 grades. Grade 3 cups have a noticeable metallic sheen to them but no additional glazing. Grade 2 cups are much more metallic and may have more glaze effects. Grade 1 will have much heavier glaze effects. Some are spectacular! The wood firing process added a slight squishiness to the cups. Some are ever so slightly out of round. Since these are handmade products each are unique. There are slight variations to each. The one you get will be special. Jianshui is in Yunnan, and the clay used in these teacups comes from the same mountains that grow puerh tea trees. We appreciate that connection. We blogged about this unique town here. These cups measure on average 8cm Wide by 6cm Tall. They hold approximately 120ml of tea. Check out our video series from Jianshui:
