By choosing it, you keep 13 water bottles worth of plastic out of landfills. Turning water bottles into super-soft fabric sounds like magic, but it’s really science. Here’s how it’s done: Used plastic bottles are collected for recycling. The bottles are sent to a reclaiming facility and thoroughly cleaned. The bottles are sorted by colour, ground into flakes and tossed in hot air until they melt into a thick liquid. The liquid is passed through plates with tiny holes – sort of like a showerhead. This process turns the liquid into super-fine strands – each one is around 5x thinner than human hair. The strands are cut, stretched, aligned, and woven into a soft, cosy fabric.
