Pair of Louis XVI Style Gilt Metal and Glass Vitrine Pedestals

A refined pair of Louis XVI style pedestal cabinets constructed in gilt metal with glass panels. Each stands on four slender tapering fluted legs headed by acanthus-carved capitals, united by delicate scrolled stretchers centered on a finial. The cabinet section houses a single door fitted with an glass panel applied with cast ribbon-tied swags and a flowering urn, flanked by glass side panels. Above, a frieze cast with interlaced foliate strapwork surrounds the case, surmounted by an onyx-inset top with a pierced gilt metal gallery. Each is crowned by an oval beveled mirror within a ribbon-crested and foliate-cast frame. The neoclassical vocabulary of swags, paterae, urns, and fluting is characteristic of the Louis XVI revival taste popular in France at the turn of the century. Suitable for use as bedside cabinets or occasional vitrines. Some wear to the gilding and minor losses commensurate with age.
