1960s Danish Stander Møbelfabrik Teak Writing Bureau – Elegant Mid Century Desk - Cleaned and Restored - Superb Condition A beautiful 1960s Danish Mid Century teak writing bureau, attributed to Stander Møbelfabrik, combining wonderfully elegant Scandinavian design with an abundance of clever, compact storage. This is exactly the sort of piece that demonstrates why Danish furniture of the 1960s remains so sought after today. Beautifully proportioned, wonderfully practical and crafted in warm, richly coloured teak, it has a quiet sophistication that allows the natural beauty of the timber and the simplicity of the design to take centre stage. The bureau features a beautifully figured warm honey-brown teak exterior, with the natural grain running across the drawer fronts and fall-front to create a wonderfully cohesive appearance. The clean, architectural lines are softened by the gently raised rails to the top and sides, while the three generous drawers are finished with gorgeous recessed, sculpted teak handles – a particularly lovely Mid Century detail. Raised on four beautifully shaped tapered Danish legs, the bureau has that characteristic Scandinavian lightness and elegance. The legs taper gently towards the floor and angle subtly outwards, lifting the substantial cabinet above the floor and giving the piece a wonderfully airy appearance. The supporting rails between the legs provide strength and stability whilst retaining the elegant open framework typical of Mid Century Danish furniture. Open the Door to a Little Mid Century Magic… The upper section is secured by its original key, and when the fall-front is lowered it transforms into a surprisingly spacious writing and working area. Inside is a wonderfully organised arrangement of storage: Two small drawers provide the perfect place for pens, pencils, stationery, correspondence, notebooks, receipts and all those little desk essentials that otherwise seem to disappear! Two tall vertical pigeon holes/cubby compartments are ideal for storing letters, documents, notebooks, folders or books upright, whilst three horizontal open shelves provide further space for paperwork, stationery, diaries, small office accessories or perhaps a few treasured decorative pieces. There is something wonderfully satisfying about a vintage bureau where everything has its own little place. The fall-front creates a 32cm deep writing/laptop area, providing plenty of room for a laptop, notebook and everyday working essentials. It would make an excellent home-working station, laptop desk, writing desk or compact study area, particularly for anyone wanting a proper workspace without dedicating an entire room to it. Once the day's work is finished, simply clear the surface, close the fall-front and your workspace disappears neatly back into the furniture. And this is where this little bureau really comes into its own. At just 76.5cm wide and 41cm deep when closed, it has a wonderfully compact footprint, making it ideal for apartments, smaller rooms, bedrooms, living rooms, hallways or contemporary homes where space needs to work hard. Yet when opened, it provides a surprisingly generous working environment. The writing surface sits at approximately 76cm high, with 74cm of clearance from the floor to the underside, providing comfortable legroom when seated. We particularly love the way this bureau combines three full-size drawers, internal drawers, pigeon holes, shelving and a proper writing surface into such a beautifully compact piece of furniture. It is practical enough for modern life but has all the warmth, craftsmanship and character that makes genuine Mid Century furniture so special. A Note on Provenance We believe this beautiful bureau dates from the 1960s and is Danish in origin, and based on our research we believe it to be attributed to Stander Møbelfabrik, a Danish furniture manufacturer. There is no visible manufacturer's label or stamp present, so we have chosen to describe it as attributed to rather than make a definitive maker's claim. Its design, proportions, materials and construction are entirely in keeping with Danish Mid Century furniture of the period. The bureau also retains its original key, adding to its authenticity and functionality. Condition This beautiful bureau is in superb vintage condition and presents exceptionally well. The warm teak has a lovely depth of colour and beautiful natural figuring throughout, and the piece retains its original character and charm. This writing bureau has been professionally cleaned and restored and is in exceptional condition.
