Milk Oolong

Among Taiwan’s tea cultivars, few are as beloved as Jin Xuan 金萱, the variety behind what is often called Milk Oolong. Introduced in the late twentieth century, Jin Xuan was selectively bred to express a naturally creamy character, associated in part with lactones—aromatic compounds that can create buttery, milky notes in the cup. Yet this character is never guaranteed. It emerges most clearly when the right cultivar, cool high mountain terroir, and careful craftsmanship come together. Grown in Nantou County, where drifting mist and cooler temperatures slow leaf growth, our Milk Oolong develops a silky texture, delicate orchid aroma, and lingering natural sweetness. Its creaminess is not added or flavored; it is an expression already present within the leaf, patiently revealed through careful growing and making.
