This technique takes its character from autumn leaves at the very end of their cycle, the moment an ending begins to turn into a beginning. A subdued, almost decayed red sits beneath layers of brown and yellow, with a final grey-toned wash suggesting age. The result is a muted, restrained crimson, a more settled version of the brighter reds of earlier autumn.
