Italeri Lancia Stratos HF Gr.4 Monte Carlo 1977 — 1:12 Scale Model Kit Low, compact, and unmistakably shaped by Bertone, the Stratos combined a lightweight chassis with a 2.4-liter Ferrari Dino V6 producing approximately 250 horsepower. The result was one of the most successful—and certainly one of the most recognizable—rally cars ever built. This large 1:12 scale kit recreates the Alitalia-sponsored Stratos driven by Sandro Munari and Silvio Maiga to victory in the 1977 Monte Carlo Rally. Munari’s win was his third consecutive victory at Monte Carlo, which seems excessive until you remember what he was driving. Italeri developed this kit from entirely new tooling, with more than 500 parts devoted to the chassis, cockpit, suspension, bodywork, and remarkably complete engine compartment. At 12.2 inches long, the finished model has enough size to make all that detail visible—and enough mechanical complexity to keep experienced builders properly occupied. A Complete View of the Stratos The front hood, rear engine cover, and both doors can be positioned open, revealing the structure beneath the famous wedge-shaped body. The front compartment includes the radiator, cooling equipment, spare wheel, and associated plumbing. Inside, the competition cockpit features detailed instrumentation, bucket seats, roll cage, fire extinguisher, and fabric racing harnesses assembled with photo-etched buckles. At the rear is a highly detailed, multi-piece reproduction of the Ferrari-derived V6. Separate cylinder heads, intake system, exhaust headers, ignition components, hoses, wiring, and surrounding chassis structure make the engine a substantial model in its own right. Functional Mechanical Details The kit includes a fully developed chassis with steerable front wheels and working suspension incorporating metal coil springs. Brake discs, separate calipers, fuel tanks, suspension components, exhaust system, and engine subframe are all individually represented. Realistic rubber tires carry an accurate rally tread, while a flexible rubber sheet is supplied for the mudguards. Screws are used at selected assembly points for strength and mechanical operation. The Famous Alitalia Livery Two extensive Cartograf decal sheets reproduce the green, red, and white Alitalia markings of the winning No. 1 car, along with sponsor logos, competition numbers, dashboard instruments, switches, warning labels, and smaller technical markings. The large graphics are divided into manageable sections to assist placement over the Stratos’ complex bodywork. A substantial photo-etched fret provides grilles, harness hardware, fasteners, brackets, and other details that would be too fine to reproduce convincingly in molded plastic. Chrome-plated parts, clear instrument lenses, vinyl tubing, fabric harness material, metal springs, screws, and flexible mudguard material complete the multimedia package.
