Waterworks Education Hour: New Ways to Taste

Wednesday, October 7th, 6:30-8 PM Wine tasting notes at their best, create a shared language around how we experience flavour. But the traditional vocabulary can feel cool & limiting, and natural wine has expanded far beyond these borders. Terms like “gooseberry” (have you ever actually tasted one?) and “medium minus” don’t evoke the feeling of what's in the glass or make us particularly excited to drink it! What are the new ways to taste & how can we share the dynamic experience of each bottle? In this 90-minute conversation, we’ll explore how we talk about wine, guided by five, interesting and unique wines from around the world. We’ll begin with a classic-but-boring sommelier tasting grid and then move beyond it, expanding our flavour and aroma vocabulary beyond Western European somm-school references. We’ll draw on structure, vibe, and our own taste memories to describe & communicate what we’re experiencing. Wine is meant to be shared, talked about, and enjoyed - so let's get to it!
