Swissbit iShield Key Pro
The Swissbit iShield Key Pro is a hardware security key that covers more than passkey logins. Alongside FIDO2 it handles one-time passwords and smart card certificates, so it works with older systems that never supported WebAuthn. What it supports FIDO2 / WebAuthn (CTAP2) FIDO U2F (CTAP1) HOTP — event-based one-time passwords TOTP — time-based one-time passwords. Swissbit ships the TOTP applet on some units and not others, so ask us to confirm before ordering if you need it Smart card (PIV-compatible) — certificate login, encryption and digital signing OpenSC-compatible Stores up to 32 passkeys Certified FIDO2/CTAP2 Level 1 and U2F CTAP1, and Microsoft certified. Built on an Infineon SLE78 secure chip. Private keys are generated and used inside the chip, so signing and decryption happen on the key and the keys themselves never leave it. The one-time password support matters for services that never adopted WebAuthn, and works offline — useful where there is no connection to complete a FIDO login. Build Thermoplastic polyamide housing with a matte finish Rear touch sensor, keychain hole and a multi-color status LED Weighs 6 g Rated from -25 °C to 70 °C Survives 1,500 g shock and 50 g vibration No battery and no moving parts — it draws power from the port, and taps over NFC The two connectors differ slightly in size and sealing: USB-C / NFC — 47.5 x 18.5 x 6 mm, IP68, dust tight and protected against powerful water jets USB-A / NFC — 51.5 x 18.5 x 6 mm, IP67, dust protected and protected against temporary immersion Compatibility Windows 10 and 11, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Linux, ChromeOS and Android. Works in Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Safari. Tap-and-go over NFC on phones; touch the sensor when plugged in. Common questions What can the Pro do that the FIDO2 model cannot? One-time passwords (HOTP and TOTP) and smart card certificate login (PIV). If you need Windows local or Active Directory sign-in with a certificate, or you want to store private keys for signing and encryption, you need the Pro. What happens if I lose it? You lose that method of access. Register two keys to every account and keep the spare somewhere safe. Does it need charging? No. There is no battery and no moving parts. Is it the same as a crypto hardware wallet? No. A security key protects your logins. A hardware wallet protects your crypto.
