Merry Edwards, Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley
Merry Edwards has never been a producer particularly interested in following convention, and this Sauvignon Blanc is a fine example. Barrel fermented in French oak and aged on its lees, it offers a richer, more textured interpretation of the variety while retaining the freshness that makes Sauvignon Blanc so appealing. White pineapple, passion fruit, mango and guava bring plenty of tropical character, joined by notes of citrus zest, lemon curd and a delicate hint of crème brûlée. The palate is generous and velvety, balancing ruby grapefruit, melon and honeysuckle with a freshness that stops it ever feeling heavy. Long, expressive and wonderfully poised, it’s the kind of wine that tends to challenge expectations in all the right ways.
