Spotted Discosoma Mushrooms Coral Frag

Spotted Discosoma Mushrooms, Discosoma sp., are colorful corallimorphs known for their broad fleshy oral discs and textured surfaces. This WYSIWYG coral frag features green to olive tissue covered with numerous bright yellow spots and raised vesicles, creating a bold high-contrast pattern across the disc. Discosoma mushrooms contain symbiotic zooxanthellae that provide much of their nutritional needs through photosynthesis, while they may also absorb dissolved nutrients and capture very small suspended foods. As they mature, Discosoma mushrooms can enlarge considerably and may reproduce by division or pedal laceration, gradually producing additional polyps. Because exact species identification within Discosoma cannot be confirmed reliably from external appearance alone, Discosoma sp. is the most scientifically appropriate designation for this specimen. Care Guide: Discosoma sp. generally prefers low to moderate reef lighting with low to moderate, indirect water flow. Strong lighting or excessive direct flow can cause the mushrooms to remain contracted or detach from their substrate. Place on stable lower to mid-level rockwork with enough room for expansion and possible spreading. Maintain stable salinity, temperature, alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, and phosphate. Discosoma mushrooms are primarily photosynthetic and usually do not require direct feeding, though occasional fine particulate or small meaty foods may be accepted. They are generally hardy and adaptable, but sudden changes in lighting, salinity, or temperature should be avoided.
