Around 75% of a whisky’s flavour will develop from the cask so the team source exceptional casks from the very best vineyards, bodegas and whiskey-makers across Europe and America. Benrinnes is known for its rich, robust spirit which makes it particularly well suited to maturation in rich fortified-wine casks, where the influence of the wood can add depth without overwhelming the underlying spirit. For this single-cask release, Murray McDavid has paired 16-year-old Benrinnes with a Murça Tawny Port cask, sourced from Caves de Murça in Portugal. The Tawny Port influence brings an additional dimension of rich fruit, sweetness and spice to the hearty Benrinnes spirit. Nose: Red berries, chocolate, fruit and nuts. Palate: Honey, cherry, floral, dark liquorice. Finish: Long, Turkish Delight, mellow clove.
