Title: In Perpetuity, Thiepval Memorial to the Missing Artist: Liz Nicol Size: 62cm x 46cm Type: black & white silver gelatine print Subject: the ‘Great War’ Medium: Photograph Framed: Yes - Lovely hand finished Gesso frame People have stories to tell of the ‘Great War’… This series of photographs is the result of embarking on an ‘out of season’ journey, a commission to document the memorials and cemeteries designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens to commemorate those that died fighting during the war 1914 – 1918. Cemeteries are built on foreign soil, given in perpetuity. The aim is to maintain these replicated ‘English country gardens’ or ‘outside cathedrals’ in pristine condition. A related commission ‘In perpetuity’ was made to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Edwin Lutyens exhibited at Hestercombe Gallery, Sommerset 2019.
