Rokia's Glaoui Area Rug | 5'-9" x 8'-11"

This intricate Glaoui runner was woven by Rokia, our artisan leader from the village of Aït Tigga, nestled deep in the Siroua region. Until recently, Aït Tigga was only reachable via a rugged off-road path. For years, the artisans there relied on the women of Anzal to help sell their rugs. But with the construction of a new road, the artisans of Aït Tigga are now able to share their work independently. Woven in the Glaoui technique—named after the Glaoua (Glawa) tribe of southern Morocco—this piece showcases the complexity and versatility of a style that blends multiple weaving methods. This runner features flatweave (kharita), hand-knotting, embroidery, and Zanafi weaving—a testament to both technical mastery and artistic vision. Crafted from 100% live sheep’s wool, the colors are created using natural vegetable and spice-based dyes, including henna, pomegranate skin, saffron, indigo, and mint, among others.
