Here’s a very special 2000 Porsche 986 Boxster. It was built in 2018 by Porsche GB to mark the 70th anniversary of Porsche as one of a run of 20 special-edition restorations of its most iconic models. Ten of these were 986 Boxsters, which also commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Boxster. The Porsche received a bare-metal restoration complete with a full engine and mechanical overhaul, an interior retrim, plus some subtle updates. In effect, it’s almost a brand-new Boxster. The Boxster is beautifully finished in Liquid Metal Metallic, a gorgeous warm silver/grey that was previously reserved for the 918 Spyder supercar, complemented by smart black accents to the wheels, windscreen surround, door mirrors and side intakes, plus subtle ’70th’ graphics on the front wings. A new hood was fitted. Inside, the black interior boasts seats reupholstered in Porsche-branded cloth fabric with Porsche crests in the headrests. The head unit has been updated with a Porsche Classic system with Bluetooth phone connectivity and satnav, linked to uprated Alpine speakers, an alloy gear knob has been fitted, the centre console has been deleted, and there’s a commemorative plaque on the rear bulkhead. Mechanically, the Porsche has been completely overhauled. A brand-new short engine was fitted, along with new Sport suspension, a Sports exhaust system, new braking system, rebuilt gearbox, reconditioned climate control, and much, much more. This unique Boxster comes with a fascinating collection of 70th anniversary memorabilia. This includes a leatherette folder containing details of the car’s restoration, plus a metal plaque and swatches of the car’s paint and seat fabric, a smart metal tin containing a (unworn) commemorative tee-shirt, a 70th cap, an anniversary Porsche Museum book (unopened), plus a Porsche presentation case containing a spare key and keyring. The restoration was done at 97,000 miles, and the mileage is now 103,500 so, taking into account the extensive restoration, this is effectively a 6500-mile Porsche 986 Boxster. We shall give it a service and brake fluid change before sale, so it will be all good for the next year. The car comes with the cherished, and relevant, registration, ‘S70BXR’. This is a rare opportunity to buy a rare Boxster that represents an important milestone in Porsche’s history, as well as being the closest thing to a brand-new 986 you will ever drive. The cost of the restoration would have far exceeded the car’s value. Philip Raby Specialist Cars is refreshingly different. It really does feel brand-new, albeit with some tasteful upgrades. It just proves what a fabulous design the original Boxster was. I love it!” Photos of the car on the Porsche stand at the NEC in 2018 courtesy of www.warburtonphotography.co.uk
