Echinocactus grusonii var. albispinus – White Spine Barrel Cactus

Hardiness Zone: 9-11 Height: 1-3′ Spread: 1-3′ Sun Exposure: Full Sun Foliage: Green with White Spines Flower: Pale Yellow Water Usage: Low White Spine Barrel Cactus is a rare slower growing form of Golden Barrel Cactus. It has the same pleasing round shape, with translucent spines that glow when back lit by the sun. With time, individual barrels may multiply and form clumps. Offsets may be left to grow with the parent plant or can be removed to start new plants elsewhere. Barrel Cactus look especially wonderful planted in colonies and can be used in multiples to make rows or patterns in the dry garden. Beautiful in containers, but much heavier than they appear due to the large amount of water stored within. Mature in-ground plants are cold hardy to around 20F, but young plants and potted specimens benefit from some protection in the mid 20s.
