Instead of relying on a directly attached PC, the PIF lets the camera output temperatures, statuses, and alarms - and accept external setpoints - over standard industrial I/O, making it the link between thermal measurement and automated process control. How It Differs from the Standard Process Interface Cable The standard process interface (PIF) cable for the Xi cameras (comes with the camera) that provides basic, non-isolated I/O - a single analog output (0-10 V), one analog input, and one digital input on a bare cable terminating in a 5-pin terminal block. The industrial PIF is a substantial step up. It expands the I/O to three analog/alarm outputs plus three switching alarm relays, two analog inputs, and a digital input, and its analog outputs are 0/4-20 mA current loops rather than 0-10 V - far better suited to long cable runs and electrically noisy plants. Most importantly, it adds 500 V AC galvanic isolation between the camera and the process, packages the electronics in a rugged, mountable enclosure with status LEDs, and continuously monitors for faults with built-in fail-safe alarms. The standard cable is fine for simple bench or light-duty signaling; the industrial PIF is built for permanent integration into industrial control systems. Expanded Analog and Digital I/O The interface provides three analog/alarm outputs, two analog inputs, and one digital input. Outputs (0/4-20 mA, or 0-30 V / 400 mA alarm relays) can transmit values such as the main measurement-area temperature, internal temperature, frame sync, alarm, and fail-safe status. Inputs (0-10 V analog, 24 V digital) let the process feed the camera parameters like emissivity, ambient temperature compensation, and reference temperature, or trigger snapshots, recordings, line-scan capture, and peak-/valley-hold resets. 500 VAC Isolation and Fail-Safe Protection A key benefit of the PIF is 500 V AC RMS galvanic isolation between the infrared camera and the process, protecting the camera and the connected PC from the voltage spikes and ground loops common around industrial machinery. Integrated fail-safe mechanisms continuously monitor the connection: if the cable is interrupted or the software shuts down, the PIF triggers an alarm rather than failing silently. On-board LEDs - two green for power and fail-safe, three red for alarm-relay status - give at-a-glance diagnostics. Compatibility The industrial PIF is designed for USB-native Optris Xi series infrared cameras, including the Xi 80, Xi 410 LT, Xi 410 MT, and Xi 1M. It connects to the camera's process-interface connection and is powered from a 5-24 VDC supply.
