Gymnocalycium damsi var. multiproliferum

Gymnocalycium damsii var. multiproliferum is an attractive and unusual cactus variety, characterised by its compact, rounded form and tendency to produce numerous offsets around the base. Over time, these offsets can develop into appealing clusters, giving mature plants a full and highly decorative appearance. Native to South America, this Gymnocalycium typically develops a green to grey-green body with well-defined ribs and relatively short, curved spines. Its softer spination and rounded growth habit give it a distinctive appearance compared with more heavily spined cactus varieties. Mature plants can also produce attractive, funnel-shaped flowers from the crown, usually in delicate pale shades, adding further seasonal interest. Gymnocalycium damsii var. multiproliferum prefers a bright position with plenty of indirect light or gentle sunshine. Grow in a specialist, free-draining cactus compost and water moderately during spring and summer, allowing the compost to dry between waterings.
