VINTAGE LATE 1940’s BRITISH ARMY MILITARY VERTEX WWW ‘DIRTY-DOZEN’ WATCH 100% ORIGINAL
VINTAGE LATE 1940’s BRITISH ARMY MILITARY VERTEX WWW ‘DIRTY-DOZEN’ WATCH 100% ORIGINAL. This exceptional and rare gentlemen’s military wrist-watch was manufactured by the Swiss manufacturer ‘Vertex’ in the mid to late 1940’s. Designed during the closing stages of ww2, some of which were actually issued during the conflict, the www (wrist-watch-waterproof) ‘dirty-dozen’ watches are now highly collectable. This example is a very fine watch indeed. The large chromed satin-finish case measuring 36mm across the bezel not including the crown and 47mm tip-to-tip. The case is in very, very good original condition, with nice sharp edges to the lugs and bezel etc. There is minimal loss to the chrome plating as is usually seen, these chromed examples are normally very rough with wear. The nickel/brass base showing through clearly on both sides and the top of one lug. There are no serious scratches or dings from the watch being abused post-service. The back has minimal scratches, which is rare to find and exhibits full British military marks with individual stamped serial number 6772. With additional engraved q-code 6768 above the broad arrow. The beautiful original black dial is in very, very good order, with very minimal radium-burn evident. The lume is original and close to perfect with no visible loss. (hands removed and photographed from the rear to check originality). The hands are in excellent condition, the luminous filling having darkened considerably over the years. The crown is the original and in good condition and the glass also appears to be the original. The hand-wound calibre 59 movement is in superb condition, a testament to the quality of the case design which has protected it over the years. There is no loss to the rhodium plating, perfect screw-heads and absolutely no signs of being abused by amateurs previously. With just the one servicing mark inside the back, it does look as though the watch has had little use. We don’t believe that the strap is the original, but it has clearly been fitted to the watch for a very long time and is period correct. We will provide a new, quality strap with the purchase should the buyer prefer to fit one. A rare watch, especially considering the fine condition.
