Fleece 101

We'd love to show you how to shear a sheep, but that's best left to the experts! But once you've got a fleece, what steps do you need to take to make it into usable fibre? In this workshop we'll start with a fleece ready to be divided and washed. We will look at the best uses of the different parts of the fleece and methods of washing the fleece . Once the fleece is clean we can look at the ways of preparing the wool so that it can be spun such as using a drum carder to produce batts ready for spinning. We will also have a go at using hand carders and a comb. This workshop, led by Judith Read, is suitable for anyone who has always wanted to know how to prepare their own fibre. No previous experience is necessary.
