The 313 Shopper is handmade in our Detroit workshop from repurposed automotive industry leather, cut and assembled by our makers with pride and purpose. Featuring a magnetic snap closure and large open interior. This shopper- style tote is unlined and open inside, so there is plenty of room for carrying your essentials - and then some! D-ring clips accommodate an optional shoulder strap (sold separately) for hands-free carry. Simple. Intentional. Made here in Detroit. We give this material a new life by transforming it into high quality leather products that are sustainable and handmade to last. Perfectly Imperfect: Every Pingree Tote is slightly different. Why? The leather that we use is of the highest genuine grade and has imperfections that tell an authentic story. Small scratches and marks on the leather's surface are normal and will help the bag patina and age nicely. Texture and shade of leather may vary slightly from those pictured. Why the Name, "313": In 1947, Detroit was assigned one of the original 86 area codes in North America, sitting at the same table as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. That was not an accident. Detroit was the fourth largest city in the country, and this number was its own. Over the decades, the code got carved up as the region grew. New codes took the suburbs. What remained was the urban core, and Detroiters claimed it harder for it. It showed up in music, on clothing, in tattoos, and eventually got its own holiday: 313 Day, every March 13. It is one of the only symbols in this city that crosses every neighborhood, every background, and every generation. When you say 313, everyone knows exactly where you mean. That is why this bag carries this name. The 313 is where our team lives, plays, and hand crafts each bag.
