Asahiyaki Matcha Chawan - Matsubai glaze
Handmade at the Asahiyaki workshop in Uji, Kyoto, this compact chawan is sized for a single daily bowl of matcha. The bowl is fired in Asahiyaki's climbing kiln, known as "Genkama." Its glaze is made from the ash of red pine firewood burned during the kiln firing. Pieces positioned near the firebox or on the upper kiln shelves, where temperatures run hottest, develop the most vivid color from this ash glaze, giving each bowl a distinct, unrepeatable surface. Product Details Dimensions: Approx. 122mm × H65mm Material: Uji stoneware clay Glaze: Pine ash glaze (matsubai-yu), made from red pine ash collected from the kiln firing Firing method: Wood-fired in "Genkama," a traditional noborigama (climbing kiln) Care Instructions Soak in water for about 10 minutes before first use as the bowl ships as it comes from the kiln, and using it dry for the first time can make it prone to staining. After each use, dry thoroughly and make sure it's fully dry before storing.
