1998 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Classic in Rare Butterscotch CRAZY QUILT TOP! Slash Appetite For Destruction AFD Vibes!
1998 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Classic in Rare Butterscotch CRAZY QUILT TOP! Slash AFD Vibes! Here is a really unique and highly figured 1998 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Classic, featuring an absolutely insane quilt maple top in a rich butterscotch finish that gives this guitar serious early “Slash AFD” visual vibes. This is a standout example from the late-’90s “Good Wood era”, widely regarded for its strong build quality, resonant bodies, and highly desirable tops. In this case, the quilt figuring is truly exceptional—deep, tight, and highly three-dimensional, easily among the most impressive we’ve seen on a Les Paul Classic from this period. Condition is very good plus overall, showing honest cosmetic wear consistent with careful use. There are some light buckle marks on the back that do not break through the finish, along with a few isolated marks on the top. Overall, it presents extremely well and retains a strong collector-grade visual appeal. The guitar appears to be largely 100% original, with a few tasteful and reversible component updates. The capacitors have been upgraded to real Bumblebees, and three bridge saddles have been swapped to nylon, while the remaining hardware and electronics remain factory correct. The pots date to late 1997, and the pickups are the original ’57 Classic zebra humbuckers. It features a factory ABR-1 bridge (no foundry mark) and a full-weight stop tailpiece, contributing to its solid sustain and classic Les Paul response. This is a true Good Wood-era standout, combining top-tier aesthetics with excellent tonal character and build quality. The neck has a comfortable late-’50s style carve, measuring approximately 0.81" at the 1st fret and 0.87" at the 12th fret, making it a slightly slimmer, fast-playing profile. At 8.5 lbs, it has an excellent balance of resonance and comfort, with strong sustain and a lively acoustic response. It comes complete with the original rare Gibson Custom Shop textured hardshell case, along with all original paperwork as shown.
