Windward was Chicago-based Montgomery Ward's in-house leather label until the mid 1950s, when they began outsourcing their catalog leather outerwear to Brent, based in Detroit. While Montgomery Ward did offer the traditional four pocket perfecto-style design throughout their entire tenure producing leather jackets domestically, this silhouette was specific to Windward-era Montgomery Ward leather jackets. With a simple three pocket design, no d-pocket panel or cigarette pocket, it was one of the more basic motorcycle jackets available at the time. Rather than keep the minimalist look, reminiscent of 1930s–1940s aviator jackets, Montgomery Ward took advantage of their hardware department and adorned it with plenty of embellishments. Nickel rivets add a little flair to each of the zippered pockets, and the five point stars on the lapels draw inspiration from the decorated military officer uniforms of WWII. Made from well-loved horsehide, softened beautifully with great patina from decades of use. There is some cracking on the sleeves, and some wear throughout the liner, as seen in pictures, and the original WINDWARD label has been lost to the sands of time. Made in USA.
