Al Fresco
Pigment and lime plaster, on fibre-plate 5.9" x 4.7" x 1.3" in I 15 x 12 x 3.5 cm 2026 Al Fresco These works explore the ancient technique of fresco painting, practiced for centuries on fresh lime plaster. Pigments mixed only with water are applied directly to the wet surface and become permanently bonded as the plaster cures, creating a durable, water-resistant finish. Skin As lime plaster dries slowly, it develops a skin-like surface. Painting begins when the plaster reaches a "leather-hard" state, allowing pigments to be absorbed while retaining their clarity against the pale lime base. Transparency Depth and luminosity are achieved by integrating pigments directly into the plaster. Layers of coarse and fine plaster in different tones blend during application, revealing subtle variations beneath the surface and creating a translucent, marble-like effect.
