Film Screening with Salman AlNajem: The Animatrix

Days and dates: Wednesday, 16 September 2026 Time: 7 - 9 pm Type: Film Screening Language: English Venue: The Coworking Space Concept Brief: As part of the public programme accompanying Meaningful/less, Salman AlNajem will lead a screening and discussion around selected episodes from The Animatrix (2003). The screening extends some of the exhibition’s questions around existence, reality, consciousness, technology, agency and the search for meaning through the lens of science fiction and animation. Rather than screening The Animatrix as a conventional film programme, Salman will introduce each selected episode and use it as a starting point for an informal conversation with the audience, connecting its ideas to the broader themes explored in the exhibition. About The Animatrix: The Animatrix (2003) is an animated science-fiction anthology expanding the world and ideas of The Matrix. Produced by the Wachowskis, the anthology brings together a number of Japanese and international animation filmmakers across nine short films. Moving between different characters, realities and visual styles, the films explore questions surrounding artificial intelligence, human consciousness, freedom, perception and the relationship between humans and machines.
