Seiko Champion Jumbo Case / 1961 Intro This Seiko Champion manual-winding watch from 1961 features a stunning white sector dial and a 35mm case, which is on the large side for its era. This is among the first examples from a line of rich history and classic watches such as the cult classic "Alpinist". It is rare to find a Seiko from that era in such condition, considering the humid climate of Japan (where air conditioning was not common until the 1970s). Story The Seiko Champion arrived from Daini Seikosha (famous for its King Seiko line) in the early 1960s. It served as Seiko's entry range, and in its first years offered elegant, classically styled models with thin, refined cases. From around 1963 the line took a sportier turn, gaining water resistance and a broader choice of dials, before narrowing to the Calendar model alone from 1964 and running until about 1966.
