This is a expertly executed Telemark-style Rosemaling bowl. It is initialized by the artist with O.U. 1978 on the bottom. It’s in perfect condition so someone has taken excellent care of it for 48 years. The bowl is painted with light-to-dark brown background that lends depth to the Rosemaling. Colors are beiges and tans, yellow, rust and greens with accents in a silvery white and black on the edges. The inscription says, “I den gamle nordens skikk var øl den beste drikk” which translates roughly to “In the old norths custom, beer was the best drink”…but sounds a lot better in rhyming Norwegian! Then it says “Anno Domino 1978″ in Latin. The bowl was found in beautiful Ryfoss in central Norway. The artistry is gorgeous. You’ll be proud of this piece of Norwegian heritage for sure. The bowl is 10.5″ in diameter and stands a little over 4” tall. It weighs 1lb 2oz. Ryfoss, Central Norway
