But at the moment captured in the 19th-century drawing that is printed in silk on this pocket square, the monument was still a work in progress. A change in marble suppliers during its 23-year construction hiatus led to a subtle change in colour to the monument that is as noticeable today as the varying shades of green and grey that give this pocket square its versatility.
