Antique 15K, Ruby & Opal Cruciform Pendant
A popular motif in eighteenth and nineteenth century jewelry was the cruciform, or cross-like shape within the design. This brightly beautiful eye catching pendant is made of seventeen hot pink rubies (most likely Burmese) and eighteen fiery Australian opals. A ring of the stones encircles the inner element, which has a clever pattern of the gems that form a cross. The combination of rubies and opals was popular throughout the Victorian era and into the Edwardian era, dating this piece at approximately 1880s-1900s. A lovely color story for any opal or ruby collector!
