The Camberley Vines
Camberley has an interesting history. The property was originally a plum farm before Gael and John Nel purchased it in 1990. They replaced the plum trees with vineyards, initially focusing on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Their first vintage was produced in 1995, primarily for friends and family, followed by their first commercial release in 1996. The estate subsequently expanded its vineyards and wine selection, before returning to a smaller-scale production philosophy focused on quality and individuality. Camberley is a distinctive example of South Africa’s boutique wine culture, built around family ownership, small-scale winemaking and a beautiful Winelands setting. Its appeal lies not simply in the wine itself, but also in the sense of authenticity, personal connection and tranquillity that define the estate.
