Petrified Wood Gary Green Bog Wood, Oregon
Deep greens and teal-blues abound in this Petrified Wood from McDermitt, Oregon. While this wood has many names such as Petrified Bogwood, Gary Green Wood, and Larsonite, there is one thing for sure, it's beautiful! Ranging in age from approximately 10 to 15 million years old, this Miocene Epoch aged wood has incredible detail and a lovely color. Under different lighting conditions, the green may appear slightly more teal, contrasting perfectly with the earth tones mixing throughout the piece. With a cut and polished front, raw and natural sides, this piece has a flat-cut base allowing it to display perfectly without a stand. Petrified wood forms when a tree falls and is rapidly buried by sediment such as volcanic ash or river sediments. This creates a reduced oxygen environment (anaerobic) which halts the usual decay process. Minerals carried through the flow of water and absorbed into the tree slowly began to replace the organic material and crystallize. Over hundreds and thousands of years this crystallization took place hardening into stone.
