Precision Super Simplex Commercial Attic Stairs, S-1000 Openings to 39 in
The Precision Ladders Super Simplex is a pole-operated folding attic stairway, built to order for mechanical attics, mezzanines and tall shops. Choose the S-1000 for ceilings from 7 to 12 feet, with a rough opening up to 39 inches wide available, or the S-2000 for 12 feet 1 inch to 13 feet 6 inches. Both are rated at 500 pounds and offer a 2-hour fire-rated door. Specifications The Super Simplex at a Glance The Precision Ladders Super Simplex is a manually operated folding attic stairway built to order in two models, split by ceiling height. Model S-1000 covers finished ceilings from 7 to 12 feet on a 30-inch rough opening that can be ordered 31 to 39 inches wide; the S-2000 covers 12 feet 1 inch to 13 feet 6 inches on a 22-1/2 by 72 inch opening. Both models carry a 500-pound rating and an optional 2-hour fire-rated door, for mechanical attics, mezzanines and tall shops. Why Choose the Super Simplex A wider stair where you need one (S-1000). The S-1000 can be built with a rough opening from 31 to 39 inches wide, and Precision sizes the stair to the frame. Most attic ladders we carry top out at a 30-inch opening. Built to your ceiling, not to a size range. Each unit is fabricated from your floor-to-ceiling and floor-to-floor measurements, anywhere from 7 feet to 13 feet 6 inches, so there are no legs to cut on site. A 2-hour fire-rated door option. The optional door panel is tested to ASTM E-119 and UBC 43-7 and rated by Warnock Hersey, for ceilings where the inspector requires a rated access. Made for loaded, frequent trips. A 500 lb rating with every tread tested to 1,000 lb, serrated 6005-T5 aluminum treads on a 1/8-inch steel frame, and an 18-inch clear tread on the standard S-1000. Built to a published standard. Both models meet ANSI A14.9-2010, and an S-1000 of 27 to 39 inches falls in its Commercial Type, which helps when a project specification cites A14.9. Where It Fits Mechanical attic over offices or retail: weekly filter changes and service calls, with a 500 lb rating and 18-inch treads (S-1000) for a technician carrying tools. Stair to a roof hatch in a commercial building: built to the ceiling-to-deck dimension. The hatch itself is not part of this listing, but Precision roof hatches are available. Ask us for a quote. Storage deck over a 10- to 13-foot shop or garage: the S-1000 covers ceilings to 12 feet and the S-2000 to 13 feet 6 inches. Mezzanine above a warehouse or shop floor: the stair folds into the ceiling, so the floor below stays clear. Garage ceiling that must keep a fire rating: with the 2-hour door panel, where your local inspector requires a rated access. Which Size Do I Need? Choose your finished ceiling height (floor to finished ceiling) first, then the rough opening, then the door; the model follows from the height. Each opening offers the standard aluminum door or the 2-hour fire-rated door, except the wide S-1000, which takes the standard door. S-1000, 7'-0" to 9'-9" ceilings: 30" x 54" rough opening, or 31" to 39" wide x 54" on the wide variant. S-1000, 9'-10" to 12'-0" ceilings: 30" x 64" rough opening, or 31" to 39" wide x 64" on the wide variant. S-2000, 12'-1" to 13'-6" ceilings: 22-1/2" x 72" rough opening in the ceiling and the floor above. One width only. Wide S-1000: standard aluminum door. We confirm your exact width after you order. For a wide S-1000 with the fire-rated door, contact us. Ceiling over 13'-6": outside this stair's range. See Compare below. Floor or deck 12" or more above the ceiling: needs a deep frame, quoted separately. Where the S-1000 and S-2000 Differ Specification Value Finished Ceiling Height: S-1000: 7'-0" to 12'-0" S-2000: 12'-1" to 13'-6" (maximum) Rough Opening in Ceiling: S-1000: 30" x 54" (to 9'-9") or 30" x 64" (9'-10" to 12'-0"); built 31" to 39" wide to order, same length S-2000: 22-1/2" x 72" Opening in Floor Above: S-1000: same as the ceiling opening with a standard frame S-2000: 22-1/2" x 72" required Clear Tread Width: S-1000 at 30": 18" S-2000: 12" Wider S-1000: ask before ordering Handrail: S-1000: right side S-2000: both sides Fold-Assist: S-1000: standard from 9'-10" (optional below, quoted) S-2000: two, standard Two-Person Operation: Recommended for any unit in a ceiling 11' or higher, including every S-2000 Shared by Both Models Specification Value Type: Manual, pole-operated, three-section folding stairway Model Number: S-1000 or S-2000; the full model number is assigned per order from your ceiling height Load Rating: 500 lb, assembled stairway; each tread tested to 1,000 lb Treads: 6005-T5 extruded aluminum, 5-3/16" deep, serrated Stringers: 6005-T5 extruded aluminum channel, 5" x 1" x 1/8" Riser Height and Pitch: 9-1/2" risers; 63 degrees Frame: 1/8" steel box frame, 1" flange top and bottom; depth 6" to 11" Deeper Frames: Deep box or 63-degree angle frame when the floor or deck sits 12" or more above the ceiling; quoted separately Door Panel: 1/8" aluminum on a steel piano hinge, with an eye bolt for the pole Fire-Rated Option: 2-hour door panel; ASTM E-119 and UBC 43-7; Warnock Hersey Standard: ANSI A14.9-2010 (Commercial Type: 27" to 39" openings; Residential Type: 22-1/2" to 27") Finish: Mill-finish aluminum; primed steel frame Assembly: Ships fully assembled as one unit Mounting: Bolts not supplied; minimum 3/8" x 2-1/2" lag or anchor bolts Operation: Operating pole ships with the unit Warranty: 1 year, parts only; freight excluded Before You Buy Measure two heights: floor to finished ceiling, and floor to the floor or deck above. Precision needs both to build the stair; the difference is the frame depth. Rough opening: frame the opening your size needs (see Which Size above). The S-2000 needs its 22-1/2" x 72" opening in the floor above as well. Frame depth: 6" to 11" on these listings. A floor or deck 12" or more above the ceiling needs a deep frame, quoted separately. Mounting: the frame is squared in the rough opening and bolted through its pre-drilled holes with 3/8" x 2-1/2" lag or anchor bolts minimum, three per side and two per end. Bolts are not supplied. Don't stand on the stair until every bolt is tight. Fire-rated units: install before the ceiling is drywalled; two layers of 5/8" gypsum overlap the frame's 1" angle. Who installs: a carpenter or contractor. Deep box and angle frames may need a lift to place. No power is needed. After you order: we confirm your ceiling height, floor-to-floor and, on a wide unit, the exact width before Precision builds it. What's Included Included: the Super Simplex stairway, fully assembled in its steel frame, and its operating pole. On the 2-Hour Fire-Rated variants, the fire-rated door panel replaces the standard aluminum panel. Not included: mounting bolts (buy locally); a deep box or angle frame (quoted); Fold-Assist below 9'-10" (quoted); a roof hatch (available from Precision; ask us for a quote). Good to Know Built to your measurements. A stair built to the wrong height will not fit, so measure both heights before ordering; we confirm them with you before Precision builds. A rough opening is not a clear passage. The stair's stringers, handrail, springs and door panel sit inside the opening. The standard S-1000 has an 18-inch clear tread and the S-2000 a 12-inch one. Ceilings over 13'-6" are out of range. See the Rainbow F Series under Compare. The S-2000 comes 22-1/2" wide only, and needs the same opening in the floor above. Two people are recommended at 11 feet and over. Indoor use only. Not listed: a wide S-1000 with the fire-rated door (contact us), and frames deeper than 11" (quoted separately). Compare Super Simplex (this listing): openings to 39" (S-1000) or 22-1/2" (S-2000); ceilings 7'-0" to 13'-6"; 500 lb; 2-hour fire-rated door option; manual, pole-operated. Rainbow F Series: openings to 30"; ceilings 7'-4" to 15'-4"; 570 lb; not fire-rated; manual. Choose it if your ceiling is over 13'-6", or a 30-inch opening is wide enough and you don't need a fire rating. FAKRO LMF 60 min: openings to 30"; ceilings 10'-1" to 11'-10"; 350 lb; 60-minute fire rating; manual. Choose it if a 60-minute rating satisfies your inspector and 350 lb is enough. Precision Automatic Super Simplex: 30" opening; ceilings 8'-0" to 12'-0"; 500 lb; not fire-rated; electric. Choose it if you want push-button operation. Questions & Answers How wide can the opening be? Up to 39 inches, on the S-1000 only. The standard S-1000 opening is 30 inches wide, and Precision builds it anywhere from 31 to 39 inches at the same 54- or 64-inch length, for about 30% more. The S-2000 comes in one width, 22-1/2 inches. Is the S-1000 commercial and the S-2000 residential? No. The model follows ceiling height: the S-1000 covers 7 to 12 feet and the S-2000 covers 12 feet 1 inch to 13 feet 6 inches. Commercial and Residential are ANSI A14.9 width types, 27 to 39 inches and 22-1/2 to 27 inches, so the standard S-1000 is Commercial Type and the S-2000 Residential Type. Can I carry a 39-inch item through a 39-inch opening? No. The rough opening is the hole you frame, and the stair's stringers, handrail, springs and door panel sit inside it, so the clear space is narrower. A standard 30-inch S-1000 has an 18-inch clear tread. Ask us for the clear tread width of a wider unit before you order. What do I measure before I order? Two heights: floor to finished ceiling, and floor to the floor or deck above. Precision needs both to build the stair and set its frame depth. Then confirm you can frame the rough opening your model needs and, for the S-2000, the same 22-1/2 by 72 inch opening in the floor above. Can one person open and close it? Below 11 feet, yes. Precision recommends two people for any unit in a ceiling 11 feet or higher, which includes every S-2000. Fold-Assist, which helps the stair fold and unfold, is standard from 9 feet 10 inches up, and the S-2000 has two of them.
