Each Kavacha is a prayer amulet with a private chamber inside.The designJayashri was inspired by the silver jewelry made by Jewish silversmiths in Northern Yemen, near the Saudi Arabian border, often worked in filigree and granulation. Brides wore it from their wedding day until their death, usually hidden beneath wraps and scarves. The Yemen Wedding Kavacha pays modern tribute to that custom as a piece that does not need to be concealed; it remains one of Jayashri's favorite designs.What it holdsThe amulet opens to a private inner chamber with a gasketed closure. Every metal part, chain and clasp included, is karat gold; the chamber inside is hollow by design. Each piece takes 4 to 6 weeks to make. Yemen Wedding is also available in sterling silver, ready to ship, listed separately.Who makes itDesigned by Jayashri Triolo, who founded Kavacha in 2018 after decades of collecting amulets. She draws each design by hand in pen and ink; her longtime caster's team builds the 3D model from the drawing, and she reviews it for scale and fidelity before casting. Each piece is cast from its own single 3D print, one print, one cast, rather than pulled from a reusable mold, so no two pieces are dimensionally identical. Weights and dimensions are nominal and vary slightly from piece to piece.CareGold can collect natural oils, lotions and residue from everyday wear. Gently clean the exterior with a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild dish soap, then wipe with clean water and dry thoroughly. A soft jewelry polishing cloth can be used to restore its luster.Everyday oils and lotions can dull the stones. Clean around them with the soapy cloth or an extra-soft brush, using light strokes, and have a jeweler check the settings once a year.The hanging drops can catch on knits and lace, so take care when dressing.Remove your Kavacha before swimming, bathing, hot tubs or saunas, or using strong chemicals, and put on perfume, lotion and sunscreen first. Water resistance has not been tested, so do not treat the piece as watertight. Keep the chamber and anything inside it completely dry, and twist the cap closed by hand until the silicone seal fits snug. Once ashes or another irreplaceable trace are inside, the piece is not meant to be opened and closed casually or repeatedly, although it can be reopened when necessary.
