Organic Frankincense Carterii Essential Oil
Boswellic acids are often cited in descriptions of frankincense oil. They are triterpenes, too heavy to pass over in steam distillation, and they stay behind in the resin. The distilled oil is a monoterpene material with a different composition altogether. 01 · Origin Boswellia carterii, of the Burseraceae, grows on dry, rocky slopes in Somalia and across the Horn of Africa. Shallow cuts in the bark release a milky resin that hardens into tears. This oil is distilled from resin of certified organic origin. 02 · Process The tears are steam distilled to give a pale, mobile oil, far lighter than the resin itself. Alpha- and beta-pinene lead the profile. Limonene, sabinene and myrcene follow. Comparison with Frankincense, Carterii (No. 3010), the wild-harvested grade of the same species, and with Frankincense, Sacra (No. 3021) from Oman shows the spread of character within the genus. 03 · In Practice Fresh, peppery and resinous at the opening, settling into a soft balsamic dry-down with a hint of lemon. A middle to base note in natural perfumery. Diffusion, meditation practice, massage blends and skincare formulation. Blends with sandalwood, myrrh, cedarwood, patchouli, vetiver, rose, lavender and the citrus oils. General information: For external use only. Dilute before applying to skin. Keep away from heat and sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
