The Chêne Monastery Table

Sourced directly in France by Carol, this exceptional refectory table is a testament to the enduring beauty and rugged strength of French provincial timber craft. Built in the classic monastery style (table de monastère), it stands on a substantial trestle base with thick, hand-shaped standards joined by a heavy central stretcher and traditional exposed tusk tenons. Crafted entirely from solid French oak, the thick plank top showcases a magnificent pale, natural grain worn soft by centuries of use. Evident throughout the piece are the marks of time and traditional carpentry including hand-pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery, butterfly keys, and an organic, time-mellowed patina that cannot be replicated. Its massive, grounded presence and monumental scale make it an unforgettable centerpiece for shared meals and gathering.
