Mino Ware Octagon Ivory Dinner Set for Four

In Japan the octagon — hakkaku — has long been considered an auspicious shape, its eight sides said to gather good fortune from every direction. Each piece in this set is finished by hand in Gifu Prefecture, where Mino ware has been made for more than 1,300 years, and wears a soft ivory glaze that shifts gently with the light. This is a Japanese dinner setting for four: a generous dinner plate and a rice bowl for every guest. It is the set we reach for when the whole table is full — a housewarming, a wedding, or the first holiday in a new home.
