On Board

On Board is a superb history of boats, ships, sailors and their journeys around the world. From the earliest pioneers in the most rudimentary of crafts, right up to the modern vessels that traverse the oceans, it’s all here. There is a focus on innovative and groundbreaking expeditions and many of the most famous mariners and sea captains. However, there is a welcome appreciation of life on board for ordinary crew and the role that ships played in the movement of people, often under forced conditions, such as in the slave trade. The survey also predicts future transport at sea and is a huge achievement.
