Quality Improvement: Jidoka & Poka-Yoke
Jidoka (autonomation in English) means "automation with a human touch". It’s a hyper-focus on abnormality detection. It is the primary means in successful Lean implementations by which standards are sustained and roadblocks to standards are quickly removed. During this workshop, students will get a terrific understanding of the four components of implementing Jidoka. Jidoka works hand-in-hand with Poka-yoke (mistake-proofing in English) in quality improvement efforts. Poka-yoke is easily one of the most powerful concepts of Lean. Students will learn about the dangers of legacy quality systems designed to propagate the status quo and the the criteria for creating a successful poka-yoke devices.
