Nautical Patriotic, Bailey's Music Rooms, Burlington VT, Color Lithograph Image Sailor Farewell, Advertisement Collectible, Music Memorabilia, (Discontinued) Made in USA Antique: 1894 – early 1900's Details: This is a wonderful piece of history, an advertising collectible trade card. It features a color lithograph illustration of a sailor bidding farewell to his love, or perhaps he's returning home after a long voyage. This is an advertisement for "Huntington Pianos", sold by Bailey's Music Rooms (1869 - 1983), in Burlington, Vermont. (Funny how the image has nothing to do with pianos or music, and often you'll find, the image on trade cards was totally unrelated to the product). This piece is a true original, NOT a reproduction, we recommend storing it in archival-quality sleeves or albums. If framing, use UV-protective glass. How to Use: Excellent gift for a Trade Card collector or piano teacher. This card will interest not only trade card collectors, but for several other specific collecting themes / fields: travel, armed forces, nautical, Navy, patriotic, romance, etc. Can also be used for scrapbooking, arts & crafts, or framed as unique home decor in a music room, boy's room, or elsewhere in your home. There was a time when local service providers and retailers distributed these small, colorful cards to promote their business. Later these evolved into what we know today as a business cards and print-ads. Today these are considered very collectible primarily because of their historical significance, wonderful illustrations plus they give us a peek into society in the 19th century. Bailey's Music Rooms was founded by A.L. Bailey in 1869 in St. Johnsbury, VT. Moving to the 88 Church Street store in Burlington, in 1871. They eventually had 5 locations, with Burlington being the longest operating location. They were in business for 112 years, closing down in 1983. Surviving much longer than The Huntington Piano Company (in business for approximately 70 years, 1894 -1960s).
