Lilly of the Valley Stachio Shirt
Brooklyn-based Chinese-American artist Rose Wong works across illustration, books, ceramics and textiles, reducing familiar natural forms to their clearest shapes. Here, a single flower runs almost the full length of the shirt, translated into raw-edged cotton appliqué against a black twill ground. The cream flower head forms a working chest pocket, turning Rose’s drawing into part of the garment’s construction. Visible stitching and lightly frayed edges give the artwork its tactile character. The shirt is cut from a 160gsm cotton twill with an unusually soft, almost peach-like handle. Our Stachio shape is relaxed and boxy, with an open collar, straight hem and short side slits.
