8472 Sony CDP-XE270 Stereo CD Player — Excellent Condition | Remote Control Included | Fully Tested The Sony CDP-XE270 is a compact disc player produced by Sony of Japan, manufactured between 2001 and 2005. It sat at the entry level of Sony’s CDP range during that period and was, as it turned out, one of the last standalone CD players Sony produced under their consumer hi-fi line. Despite its modest positioning, the CDP-XE270 has attracted a degree of affection among enthusiasts, largely on account of its use of the well-regarded KSS-213C laser pickup mechanism — a reliable, proven transport unit that Sony had employed across a wide range of players. This example presents in excellent condition and is supplied with its original remote control. It has been fully tested and confirmed to be working correctly by Andrew in our workshop. Condition: Grade A — Excellent This unit presents very well, with minimal signs of use consistent with careful ownership. Please refer to our photographs for a full assessment of cosmetic condition. The CDP-XE270 is a straightforward, no-frills machine designed to do one thing well: play CDs reliably. Its circuit layout is noteworthy — almost all of the electronics, including the digital-to-analogue converter, are mounted on a single compact board located directly beneath the laser pickup. This tight integration minimises the signal path between the laser and the DAC, which in principle helps keep jitter low. The DAC itself is Sony’s own CXD2587Q chip, a 1-bit H-Pulse design, supported by a fixed digital filter. Sony specified four D/A converters in total, which typically indicates a configuration designed to improve channel separation and reduce noise. Connectivity is modest but practical. There is a single optical digital output, making the CDP-XE270 useful not only as a standalone player but also as a transport feeding an external DAC, a MiniDisc recorder, or a DAT machine. Analogue output is via a standard pair of phono (RCA) sockets at 2V. There is no headphone output on this model — that feature was reserved for the higher-specification XE570. Disc compatibility extends to CD-R and CD-RW, with Sony’s digital servo handling format recognition reliably. Operationally, the player offers a 20-track music calendar, 24-step programme function, shuffle and repeat playback modes, and an auto-play function. A jog dial provides quick track access. The overall control layout is clean and intuitive.
