Walls of Marrakech after Edward Seago
I’ve always loved the work of Edward Seago. Both his watercolours and his oil paintings provide a lesson in economy of paint. His work looks effortless, and yet when you study his technique, you realise just how hard it is to be simple. Earlier this year I came across a large tinted canvas board in my dad’s studio. I decided to paint one of Seago’s oils titled “The Wells of Marrakech”. Then I found five smaller tinted canvas boards so I had a go at doing a couple more of Seago’s oils of Marrakech. This is the second one which features various figures by the ancient walls. It’s an exercise in using a limited palette to describe the heat and bright light of Morocco. Unframed.
