Lega Mask 12

Hand-carved from indigenous wood, Lega masks come from the Lega people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. These masks symbolic of their belief that physical beauty and moral excellence are intertwined. Masks also refer to ancestors and are passed on from one generation to the next as symbols of continuity. Although simple in form, masks embody complex and multiple meanings and teachings embodied through proverbs and ceremonial dances. Stand is included. Please note stands may have minor imperfections.
