Biography Araki Jippo (1872-1944) Born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1872. Japanese-style painter. His real name was Teijiro. He studied under Noguchi Yūkoku and specialized in bird-and-flower painting. In 1898, he participated in the founding of the Japan Art Institute. He supported the activities of the institute together with Okakura Tenshin and later served as a judge for the Bunten and Teiten exhibitions. He was known for refined and elegant bird-and-flower paintings and became one of the leading Japanese-style painters from the Taisho to Showa periods. He was a member of the Imperial Art Academy and professor at Tokyo Fine Arts School. He died in 1944.
