1980s Piaget hobnail cushion in white gold, ref. 12448

Piaget built its reputation in Geneva from 1874 onward around ultra-thin movements, and by 1960 the manufacture had produced the Calibre 12P, at the time the thinnest automatic caliber in the world. That obsession with slimness shaped a whole generation of dress watches through the 1970s and 80s, of which this cushion cased piece is a fine example. The 33mm 18k white gold case carries the hobnail finish across its bezel, a fine pyramid textured pattern that catches the light from every angle, echoed on the dial itself with matching hobnail texturing behind applied indices and a blued steel handset.
