To the Lost Worlds
Join The Explorers Club on November 19th for a series of seminars on the “Lost World” of South America’s Guiana Shield. Nestled within the dark heart of the South American interior is a place which evades all forms of human comprehension. A raw, primordial world still thriving in stubborn isolation despite centuries of humankind’s daring exploits. The Guiana Shield – a gateway to some of the oldest geological formations on our planet, nearly two billion years in the making, filled with ancient landscapes and relic life forms straight out of a fantasy novel. When in 1912 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published his famous story about a group of explorers visiting a mysterious plateau, it was given a new name – “The Lost World”. Join the Explorers Club for an evening of tales from the “Lost Worlds” of the Guiana Shield – some of the most biodiverse and, at the same time, least explored places of our planet; the domain of the legendary, ancient ‘tepui’ table mountains which inspired generations of researchers, travelers and artists. In-person tickets are $20 for Members, and $35 for the General Public. Check-in will begin at 4:00 pm, with a beer and wine reception from 4:00 – 5:00 pm Click here to learn more.
