About the Artist Alex Vigil is a Santa Fe–based emerging designer creating one-of-a-kind wearable art rooted in sustainability and his Spanish and Native American heritage. Working with vintage and reclaimed materials, Alex uses deconstruction, patchwork and handwork to give existing garments an entirely new life. His work connects heritage with contemporary design while keeping craft, community and care for the earth at its center. About the Piece Alex reworked these vintage pants into a one-of-a-kind tonal patchwork piece, using layers of reclaimed fabric in deep indigo, faded blue and earthy charcoal tones. The relaxed, straight-leg silhouette is reconstructed with large color-blocked panels and intricate tonal stitching, creating a subtle gridwork that runs across the entire garment. Contrasting sections shift from washed blue through deep navy and nearly black at the hem, giving the pants a beautifully worn-in, utilitarian feel. Look closely and you’ll see the hand of the maker everywhere—layered seams, intersecting stitch lines and subtle irregularities turn a familiar workwear silhouette into something entirely new.
